New London Arandora Star Memorial Unveiled

 

New magnificent glass memorial to the London Italian victims of the Arandora Star tragedy unveiled at St Peter’s Church

After months of meticulous research, hard work and planning by the Trustees of The London Arandora Star,Il Console Generale Uberto Vanni D’Archirafi unveiled the new memorial located at St Peter’s Church following a Mass attended by, among others, Frank Dobson (MP), The Mayor of Islington Jilani Chowdhury, Deputy Mayor of Camden Jonathon Simpson, Councillor Sue Vincent, Commander Allan James of the Canadian High Commission and many families and friends of the victims. The Mass was celebrated by Padre Carmelo and Padre Vico, after which the Chairman of the Arandora Star London Trustees, Domenic Pini, gave a succinct, moving and diplomatically phrased summary of the tragedy.

The stunning glass memorial, designed and sourced by Arandora Star London Trustees Peter Capella and Victor Menozzi, was blessed by Father Carmelo followed by the unveiling and dedication by the Italian Consul General and after a few words from Frank Dobson the unveiling was celebrated by food and drinks hosted by The Trustees of The Arandora Star London (Domenic Pini, Victor Menozzi, Peter Capella, Peter Bertoncini, John Besagni, Nadia Ostacchini, Kay Lorenzato, Osvaldo and Sue Antoniazzi (the latter couple who produced a wonderful spread for the invited guests).

Chairman of the Trustees, Domenic Pini, thanked all those who had donated to, or worked behind the scenes to ensure not only a memorable unveiling but a fitting quality, lasting, memorial to those who tragically lost their lives on that fateful day.
