Italy's 2014 World Cup Squad Finalised
Brazil 2014 World Cup is about to kick off. The opening match in Manaus for Italy and for England will be on the 14th of June, when the two teams will face each other at 6pm local time. What can we say, may the best team win!
The favourite team for the world cup is Brazil. Neither Italy nor England are amongst the favourites, but England has a youthful squad lacking international experience but technically skilled, and Italy has often surprised us. Fingers crossed!
Let’s have a look at the squad the Italian coach Cesare Prandelli has set up for Brazil 2014.
Goalkeepers: Gigi Buffon (Juventus), Salvatore Sirigu (Paris St-Germain), Mattia Perin (Genoa).
Gianluigi Buffon is expected to be Italy’s first choice goal keeper at the World Cup.
Defenders: Andrea Barzagli, Leonardo Bonucci, Giorigo Chiellini (all Juventus), Gabriel Paletta (Parma), Ignazio Abate, Mattia De Sciglio (both Milan), Matteo Darmian (Torino).
Midfielders: Andrea Pirlo, Claudio Marchisio (both Juventus), Thiago Motta, Marco Verratti (both Paris St-Germain), Daniele De Rossi (Roma), Antonio Candreva (Lazio), Marco Parolo (Parma), Alberto Aquilani (Fiorentina).
Forwards: Mario Balotelli (Milan), Antonio Cassano (Parma), Alessio Cerci, Ciro Immobile (both Torino), Lorenzo Insigne (Napoli).
Genoa’s Alberto Gilardino was not included in the provisional team.
The most debated point has been the inclusion of Cassano . Cassano has not played for the Azzurri in almost two years, but this year he recorded 12 goals and five assists.
Balotelli is considered the most dangerous man of the team but also Ciro Immobile, 24 years old, who topped the scoring charts in Serie A this season with 22 goals.
